| In the News... | | | | Stress & The International Traveler: Restoring Calm & Resilience | | Workshop & International Tea Ceremony | | November 16, 2009 | | Noon to 1:30 p.m. | As part of International Education Week, this workshop and international tea ceremony will be presented in the Campus Center Hearthside Lounge (Room 2313).
Studying abroad can be a once-in-a-lifetime experience and an exciting one. The realities of daily living in an unfamiliar place, far from family and familiarity can be stressful. Stress can manifest as difficulty concentrating or sleeping, depression, nervousness, irritation, stomach or headaches, tight neck, back and shoulders, restlessness, and more. In this 60-minute presentation, you'll learn some easy ways to help feel settled, calm, and ready to make the most of your international experience. An international tea sampling will follow during the Q&A session.
Guest speaker Brandy Vanderheiden, MA, marriage and family therapy intern,* is a yoga instructor at Foothill College and counselor in Mountain View. She is studying somatic experiencing, a method for resolving trauma and stress in the nervous system, and has seen dramatic improvement in her own life and the lives of her students and clients through this method. She also traveled abroad to Spain and Costa Rica while earning her bachelor's degree and understands some of the challenges of international living.
